The Centre is a leader in building community capacity,
research application, and professional development in autism

The Centre for Autism Services Alberta was formed by a group of families in 1997 initially as a research project on best practice in autism supports. Today, the Centre works to provide quality care through evidence-based practice and by attracting and retaining excellent staff.

The Centre is home to

Three strategic training research fellows – Director of Clinical Services, Michael Stolte, MA, R. Psych; Director of Southern Services, Shane Lynch, PhD, R. Psych; and Board of Directors member Sandra Hodgetts, PhD, OT, Assistant Professor, University of Alberta

A doctoral-level supervisor in Applied Behaviour Analysis – Behavioural Consultant/Clinical Supervisor, Leny Velasquez, PhD, BCBA-D

A leader in the regulatory authority overseeing the practice of speech language pathology – Clinical Supervisor, Joanne Fodchuk, MSLP, R.SLP, S-LP(c)

An active contributor to the practice guidelines for occupational therapy and autism – Clinical Supervisor/OT Lead, Kara Straub, BSc. OT(c)

An emerging researcher on self-determination in autism – Director of Teen and Adult Services, Jackie Ryan, MA, CMA

Many of the Centre’s staff conduct or are involved in ongoing behavioural science, speech, language and communication, and social science research projects and the Centre partners with different research initiatives through Canadian universities and training sites to provide high quality care and supports.
