Summer Camp Aide (11 positions) — Camp Ace Full-Time, Temporary

FULL-DAY THEME CAMPS FOR AGES 5-12

Camp ACE focuses on building essential skills through play, fun and interaction within the community. Campers head out for a new adventure everyday with our well-trained staff aboard the yellow camp bus and come home with new confidence and memories to last a lifetime.

Role Description

The Summer Camp Aide is responsible for implementing a summer camp program for children with autism under the direction of the Camp Coordinator, Assistant Camp Coordinator and Community and Family Services Coordinator.

The Camp Aides will start June 24th and work 35 hours for the first week in which you will be attending training and supporting camp planning and preparation. The campers will arrive July 2nd at which time you will work 40 hours per week for the 8 weeks of camp.

*Please note: Availability to work all 8 weeks of camp is required*

Responsibilities

  • Implement  a community camp program under the supervision of the Camp Coordinator and Assistant Camp Coordinator
  • Provide supervision and support to all campers
  • Develop effective proactive strategies based on individual camper needs
  • Provide support to all camp staff and volunteers
  • Develop and assist in the creation of visuals, social stories and other support materials as required
  • Provide communication to parents on a daily basis as required
  • Consult and collaborate with the Camp Coordinator and Assistant Camp Coordinator as required
  • Prepare and/or contribute to critical incident reports as required by the Camp Coordinator
  • Effectively communicate with agencies in the community
  • Positively promote The Centre for Autism at all times

 

Qualifications

  • Experience working with children in a group setting
  • Excellent  interpersonal skills, oral and written communication skills
  • Excellent problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Individual needs to be energetic and creative, ensuring camp is a fun environment for all campers
  • Demonstrate crisis assessment and intervention skills
  • Clean criminal records check
  • Clean welfare check
  • Valid Certification in Child and Infant CPR and First Aid
  • Valid Non-Violent Crisis Intervention Certification (training provided)
