Summer Camp Assistant Coordinator – Camp Ace Full-Time, Temporary


Job Summary

Start Date:  May 19, 2020 (105 hours prep and training), Camp starts June 29, 2020, running 8 weeks at 40 hours per week

Camp ACE focuses on building essential skills through play, fun and interaction within the community. Campers head out for a new adventure everyday with our well-trained staff aboard the yellow camp bus and come home with new confidence and memories to last a lifetime.

The Assistant Summer Camp Coordinator supports the camp coordinator in implementing a summer camp program for children with autism.  This role also supports a leadership component that demonstrates effective orientation, training and mentorship of Camp Aides and Camp Volunteers.


In collaboration with the Camp Coordinator:

  • Organize and develop a community camp program based on individual and collective needs of the campers
  • Ensure the safety, development and growth of all campers
  • Organize and develop daily outings in consultation with the Community and Family Services Coordinator
  • Provide first line supervision of staff, volunteers  and children including ongoing and end of camp feedback
  • Develop effective programming based on individual needs
  • Train camp aides and volunteers on effective ways to support individual campers
  • Develop and assist in the creation of visuals, social stories and other support materials as required
  • Provide communication to parents before camp starts and on a daily basis during camp
  • Consult and collaborate with the Community and Family Services Coordinator as required
  • Prepare and/or contribute to critical incident reports as required
  • Public Relations and Communications: Effectively communicates with agencies in the community. Positively promote The Centre for Autism Services Alberta at all times



  • Minimum of 3 years experience working with children
  • Knowledge and understanding of:
    • Behavioral intervention programs for children with autism, Direct Teaching strategies and philosophy, Natural Teaching Strategies and philosophy
    • Theory and principles of child development
  • Excellent  interpersonal skills, oral and written communication skills
  • Excellent problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Individual needs to be energetic and creative, ensuring camp is a fun environment for all campers
  • Demonstrate crisis assessment and intervention skills
  • Demonstrate supervision skills
  • Clean criminal records check, clean welfare check, Child and Infant CPR and First Aid
