The Centre for Autism Services Alberta is so proud of our University CFASA Student’s Association Volunteers!
The Centre for Autism Services Alberta Students’ Association (CFASA) presents our 10th Annual Discovering Autism Conference. “Discovering Autism and Intersectionality” is an interdisciplinary conference that will examine the unique challenges that autistic individuals face within the context of intersectional identities, the supports available, and what still needs to be addressed. Intersectionality highlights overlapping social identities and how they can be both empowering and oppressing. From culture to sexual orientation, gender to socioeconomic status, there are implications in how one experiences the world. Our keynote speaker will start us off by explaining intersectionality and neurodivergence which will be followed by breakout sessions hosted by professionals that will explore various identities, specifically in relation to autistic individuals. We will then conclude with an interactive question and answer session with a panel of autism self-advocates who will share their personal experiences.
There is an excellent line-up of speakers on topics relevant to autism at any life stage, including our Keynote speaker, Dr. Meredith Maroney.
- The conference will begin with our Keynote Speaker, Dr. Meredith Maroney.
- Following the Keynote speech, there will be a selection of breakout sessions hosted by professionals that will explore various intersectionalities across the lifespan and across identities specifically in relation to Autistic individuals
- Wrapping up the formal conference program, there will be a question-and-answer session with a panel of autism self-advocates who will share their personal experiences, so bring your questions!
- Door prize winners will be drawn at the conclusion of the event, so stick around to see if you’ve won!
